Environment and Children’s Health (2011)

Environment and Children’s Health Conference took place on November 30th, 2011 at Ganei Hataarucha, Tel Aviv.

Many children are negatively affected by environmental pollutants on a daily basis – exposure to running cars nearby schools and playgrounds and to phthalates in toys are only two obvious examples. Even embryos are in danger of exposure to pesticides, as many moms are not aware of their affect on their unborn babies.

Environment and Children’s Health Conference focused on children's quality of life in the modern environment and in empowering  pediatricians to learn more about the relationship between the environment and children's health. Topics included environmental exposures (pesticides, metals, particulate matter) and childhood diseases (asthma, allergies, neuro-developmental disorders, autism and childhood cancers).

EHF's annual conference brought together, for the first time, leading Israeli pediatricians, epidemiologists, environmental scientists and policy makers to discuss various topics concerning children's health and the environment. In this respect, the conference is a major step toward promoting and safeguarding children's health in Israel.

Keynote Speakers:

  • Prof. Philip Landrigan, Professor of Pediatrics, Chair, Department of Community and Preventive Medicine, Mount Sinai School of Medicine
  • Dr. Joachim Heinrich, Research Unit 'Environmental Epidemiology', Institute of Epidemiology, Germany
