University Centers of Excellence

As part of a multi-faceted approach to building capacity in Environment and Health, EHF will provide challenge grants for the establishment of up to three University Centers of Excellence dedicated to Environment and Health. Adding to EHF's existing programs that include an Interdisciplinary Applied Research Fund, awards for doctoral fellowships in Israel, and post-doctoral fellowships abroad, University Centers of Excellence in Environment and Health are intended to ensure focused, sustainable, university-based activity in the field. EHF seeks applications for University Centers of Excellence in Environment and Health that demonstrate expertise and research capacity, investigating a broad yet focused theme related to environmental exposures and their consequences for human health. Each research university in Israel may submit one proposal for a center. Awards will be made on a competitive basis, with a maximum grant of $1 million over five years.

EHF University Centers of Excellence will develop a range of research and non-research-based activities that are designed to advance the field of Environment and Health by contributing to a better understanding of the impact of environmental hazards on human health in Israel by exploring new scientific methods, creating new knowledge, and sharing information with the scientific community and the general public.

The Centers will bring together the various disciplines and university departments that deal with the chosen theme. Centers will have the resources and incentive to recruit senior scientists in fields related to Environment and Health, provide an active research base, and serve as magnets to attract the best young scientists at the PhD and post-doctoral levels.
